Marcus Anderson

When talking to my former Media / Producer folk homies, I do my best to try and draw the comparison between those years of long production days on set, to the long days here at Thumbody. Although the final product is very different, the logistical aspect remains the same - You wake up very early with a plan in place for the most ideal day possible, and bust your ass until you get what we need, while rolling with all of the punches in between.

Breaking Down With Marcus Anderson of Thumbody

My wife Audrey + I live very close to the space, so we try to get in as early as possible, to better help the set-up process. In-house baked pastries are proofed, drip (<3 Nguyen) is prepared, while espresso is perfectly dialed. We’re open at 7am.
— 6AM
Guests come in and we’re giving out free love today! What I love most about Thumbody is the fact that we have organically created a space where folks from so many different walks of life come in, hang, and through conversation - share what they’re most passionate about.
— 9AM
What happens when you think you run a tight-ship, with a very small crew? Things still slip through the crack. 86 Milk. This time Audrey went out for the quick run.
— 10AM
Deliveries! Shop tees are in!
— 11AM
Before our noon rush hits, I like to try and get some of the less fun stuff done. Today I’m working on disposable count, stock room organization + packing online record orders : /
— 11:30AM
The love is still free, but that Gil Scott + Brian Jackson record will run ya!
— 1PM
Need more Chai! (<3 Kolkata)
— 2PM
Blueberry Cornbread Cobbler sells out mid-day, lets make some more!
— 2:30PM
Steady Sound System stopping in with Dub 45s = Lets goooooo!
— 3PM
Teo takes over and closes the show!
— 4PM
Almost a good 12hrs in, and it’s just about time to GO! Although we appreciate and love our space here at Thumbody – we HAVE to get home to do our chores + recap on the day / plan for tomorrow.
— 5:30PM

**Not pictured** are the inconsistent espresso extractions that force us to tweak things mid-service, run-ins with folks who suggest us selling split pea soup instead of coffee, “advice” on how WE should price our offerings etc etc etc – you have to be completely out of your mind to wake up and do this again.

Contrary to being on set producing video content, Thumbody’s final product (as well as many others highlighted here at Busboy) cannot be consumed from a computer, tv or cell phone. Or cannot be purchased from an online site. You HAVE to come here to see what we have going on, and for that, we’ll continue to wake up at 5am to give our guests a great experience.
