Vaughn Vreeland

Vaughn Vreeland is not only a talented cook but also a busy video producer for NYT Cooking. From TV appearances to brainstorming for Cookie Week, there’s almost too much to get done in a day. Vaughn has a knack for perfecting classics like the perfect chocolate chip cookies, turning something store-bought into something delicious, and creating recipes for the home cook! Plus, he’s a fan favorite to watch in the NYT Cooking studio.

Breaking Down With Vaughn Vreeland

Today is a doozy, and of course I snooze one too many times, so all I have time to eat before I leave is the last dregs of my yogurt and some questionable blackberries.

— 7:00 AM
Live TV time! I do a spot for New York Live at 30 Rock all about Cookie Week, which is NYT Cooking’s yearly tradition of rolling out our holiday cookies. Love a mockneck, love talkin’ shop about my babies, love the thrill of live network television, love a greenroom with unlimited coffee.

— 9:00 AM
I run home for therapy (come on, mental health!) and treat myself to the whitefish bagel at Apollo. Hot tip! Go there during the week and you won’t have to wait in line for 45 hours.
— 10:00 AM
I begrudgingly go back up to midtown for a brainstorm at my office, featuring my good pal Sohla El-Waylly! We plot and scheme for a new season of the show I produce with her, Cooking 101. I am a supervising producer on the video squad, so pre-production for the year ahead usually takes up most of my time at work in December. She brought a slew of pastries from Hani’s bakery, which were all incredible. I love them all, but the potato pastry and the chocolate chip cookie blow my measly mind!
— 12:00 PM
After our brainstorm ends, we get a sneak peek at the Cookie Week panoramic print section. It brings a tear to me eye *says in an Irish accent.* We start planning Cookie Week in June, so to see months of hard work culminate is extremely rewarding. I helped start the video team at NYT Cooking 6 years ago, and C.W. is probably my favorite thing I’ve ever done.
— 2:00 PM
I take a quick mid-day break to go to the gym because I felt myself slipping into delirium and I needed to get the blood flowing. I have like, 5 writing assignments to work on well into the night, and I know if I don’t work out and get my silly little green juice, all I’d want to do was pour myself a bourbon, watch Housewives and doomscroll on TikTok till the witching hour.
— 4:00 PM
Finally, what you came for! Some homemade food. My boyfriend and I have enchiladas that I throw together with rotisserie chicken. I don’t have the energy for a whole to-do, and tbh, during the week I rarely do. So green and red enchiladas with lots of queso fresco it is!
— 7:30 PM
Ironically, I am eating Mint Milanos during our weeklong celebration of homemade cookies. Still working on my newsletter, but housewives is on in the background. Balance! Newsletter writing continues till about midnight and I give in because I am l’exhausted.
